Steven Sadler
PresidentSteve retired from Kennedy Industries, Inc. in Milford after working there for thirty years with the last fifteen years as co-owner and President. He is married to Michelle. They have one daughter, Melissa, who is married and has a daughter, their granddaughter, Eloise.
“After retirement I volunteered for the Livingston County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program for children with disabilities. I meet the Prouts, Larry, Kathy and Larry, Jr. there. They introduced me to The Arc, what their mission was and all the help they have provided to them over the years. Kathy thought I would be a good fit and I started volunteering there in 2017.”
Dan Bain
Vice PresidentDan is a judge of the 53rd District Court where he has served for 3 1/2 years. Prior to that he practiced law for 25 years. He is married to his wife, Lisa, who is the Director of Laboratories for Trinity Health, Ann Arbor, Livingston and Chelsea. They have two daughters, Brooke, who is a graduate of Michigan State University, and currently enrolled in physician’s assistant school at the University of Dayton, and Jessica, who is graduating from Michigan State with a degree in special education. He also has a stepdaughter Neely who is a ER nurse with Cornwell Health Systems, formally known as Beaumont. They also have a Labrador retriever, Josey, who is a certified therapy dog and assists them in their veterans treatment court and Drug Court, as well as goes to many local schools to act as a therapy dog.
“I’m serving on the Arc Board because life and the Livingston County community have been pretty good to me and I enjoy giving back to the community where I can. I have several friends whose children have developmental disabilities and see the challenges that these families face, especially as their children get older. Serving on the board is a way that I can try to be of some assistance to those families and others in similar situations.”
Ann Ockert
TreasurerAnn was with Citizens Insurance in Howell for 26 years. She has been married to her husband, Steve, for 41 years. Together they have three children, Sarah, Jake and Hannah, and one granddaughter, Sawyer.
“My daughter Hannah has CP and we used ARC advocacy services when she was still in school. Then we started volunteering at events and then I was asked to serve on the board of directors. I’ve been on the board so long, I can’t remember how long!”
Erin Terpstra
SecretaryErin currently is an educational leader and teacher for a virtual public school here in Michigan and previously was an advocate for The Arc. Her husband is a paramedic for Livingston County and they have two kids – Lillian and Graham. Lillian has quite a few diagnoses, including severe epilepsy, autism, and a cognitive impairment. As a family they love camping, movie nights, and their animals.
“I love the community I found in the employees and members of The Arc Livingston. It is a support found nowhere else, and one that we have loved becoming a part of as we navigate medical and intellectual disabilities.”
Cedar Butler
Cedar works at Sidecar, his sister and brother-in-law’s restaurant in Brighton. He lives with his mother (Sherry), sister (Mallori), another sister (Brie) and her husband (Ray) and new baby (Cayson), and his friend (Robert). He also loves his two Labrador Retrievers.
“I am involved with The Arc because I believe in their mission and the rights and equality for all. I love that the people working for The Arc have the passion and love for what they are doing. There has always been such a wonderful group of people involved with The Arc.”
Sarah Dunkel-Jackson
Sarah is a researcher and professor at Michigan State University in the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) department and Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education (CEPSE) Department. She is married to Jim and has two sporty children, Cale and Delaney. She is also guardian to her cousin Stephanie who is a Special Olympics bocce ball state champion. In addition to her human family members, she has two active dogs and several chickens.
“My favorite part about supporting The Arc is collaborating with community members to develop and implement fun and inclusive programming for individuals with disabilities and their families. My favorite program is the Howell Area Junior Baseball Association (HAJBA) Baseball Challenge League sponsored by The Arc Livingston and supported by Michigan State University’s Research in Autism and Developmental Disabilities (RADD) Lab, Cleary University’s softball team, Howell High School’s softball team, and many other amazing community members.”
Paul Landry
Paul works for the Michigan United Cerebral Palsy (MI-UCP) where he is the Social Security Benefits Counselor. His wife is a former special education teacher, who taught for more than 20 years in the Huron Valley School District. His son currently lives in Europe and his daughter lives in Troy, MI. Paul has mild cerebral palsy and his daughter has some health challenges. In addition to this Board role, Paul is very active in the community as a volunteer with the Community Housing Network and Leadership Oakland. He also loves to golf.
“I love promoting diversity and inclusion in the community. I have been supporting The Arc for many years, even before the Board.”
William Mollison
DirectorBill practiced law in Livingston County for 41 years and retired in 2021. He and his wife Cherie were guardians for Chuck from 14 to 18 years of age. He remains a wonderful part of their family. They have also hosted exchange students from Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Teneriff, and Isreal.
“My law practice focused on probate and estate planning. I was appointed by the Livingston County Probate Court to serve as guardian, conservator, and representative payee for numerous people. I also provided legal advice for Arc advocates for many years. I have served on the Board of Directors for over 12 years.”
Kathryn Prout
Kathy is married to Larry Sr and has six children; Katie (engaged to Carter), Steven (married to Shannon with daughter Madeline), John (married to Stephanie), Michael, Molly and Larry Jr. Kathy has a degree in business administration and accounting from U of D and is an amazing community volunteer with her (and her family) volunteering for Mott Children’s Hospital, U of M Dance Marathon, Team Impact and many other nonprofits.
“I have been volunteering with The Arc Livingston since 2007 when my son, Larry Jr, first modeled in the annual fundraiser. Since then, I have helped with fundraising and at events. We owe our gratitude to The Arc for helping Larry Jr many times during his school years.”
Larry Prout, Jr.
Larry lives with his parents and loves working at Uptown Coffee and volunteering for many nonprofits throughout the community, including Mott Children’s Hospital, U of M Dance Marathon and Team Impact. In addition to all of his volunteering, he (along with his family) recently founded his own non-profit, The Larry Prout Jr (The Bear) Courage Fund, to help patients with life-threatening medical conditions and their families at Mott Children’s Hospital with emergency financial needs.
“I first modeled for the Arc in 2007 at the fashion show and have had fun volunteering ever since. I know from my mom that The Arc helped us a lot when I was in school. I like seeing them helping so many others.”
Anne Richardson
Anne Richardson lives in Brighton with her husband, Brian. Anne worked for the Washtenaw Association for Community Advocacy by assisting in the coordination of Partners in Policymaking, a program to educate adults with disabilities and parents of young children with disabilities about special education, public support systems, and the policymaking process. In 2002-2015 she worked as Family Advocate for The Arc Livingston. Anne led The Arc Livingston as Executive Director from 2015 through 2021, when she retired to provide care for her son who has autism and intellectual disabilities. She has served on the Board of the Livingston Diversity Council since 2017 and is a member of the Abilities Alliance and the Livingston County chapter of 100 Women Who Care.
Anne supports the important work of The Arc Livingston, especially advocating for better services and supports and working to end the Direct Caregiver Crisis so people with significant disabilities can live their lives supported in their own community.
