The Arc of Livingston understands that the early school years of life can be stressful for families. We seek to support families with school-aged children through these budding years.
The Arc has Knowledge about:
- IDEA and Michigan Special Education Law
- Rights and responsibilities at the local and state level in the school system
- Mediation, hearing, legal process/rights and protections, IEP and IFSP process, MET and 504 regulations
- Child Care
- Mental health services
- Rights and responsibilities within the mental health system
- Family Independence Agency services
- Disability benefits
- Various parent support groups in the community
The Arc provides Advocacy:
- Within educational, mental health, social welfare and community system
- Tools for self-advocacy
The Arc offers Support:
- Holistic - we support the family as a whole
- Emotional - we always have time to talk
- Life needs - transportation, household, resources in the community
The Arc is a Compass that:
- Points in the right direction
- Networks to other community services/resources
- Links to additional resources
The Arc in Action:
- Attends IEP’s
- Attends PCP’s
- Forms support groups
- Offers training
The Arc is a Network that:
- Brings parents together
- Brings agencies together
- Brings the community together
- Develops volunteers for support
The Arc has Opportunities to:
- Volunteer, give back and make a difference
- Get to know other families and members of the Arc
- Support people with disabilities. This builds our community and lots of hands make light work.
