Volunteer
Program
This program matches people with disabilities living in the community with a volunteer who can help with shopping, doctor appointments, dental appointments, paying bills, social events etc. The Arc also provides an environment for persons with disabilities to learn general office skills by volunteering in the office in situations such as answering phones, taking messages, typing on computers/data entry, copying, cleaning, volunteering at dances, etc.
Volunteer
Projects
Dances: The Arc has a monthly dance. A volunteer would attend these dances, socialize and help with money collection, snack set-up, clean up after the dance, etc.
Companionship/Leisure: A volunteer would be spending time with people doing such things as going to the movies, playing cards, bowling, etc.
Assisting
people with budgeting and paying bills: The volunteer would meet with the person on a monthly basis and help them pay their bills and balance their checkbooks.
Office
help: Volunteers help with our mailings, answering phones, putting data in the computers, filing, etc. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
Transporting: Volunteers help transport people to work, to doctor appointments, shopping, church, etc. A volunteer who is transporting would need to have a good driving record and a minimum of $100,000.00 over $300,000.00 for bodily injury and $100,000.00 property damage.
Fundraisers: Volunteers help in all areas of our fundraisers.
The Arc’s goal is to match volunteers in the different areas to ensure a positive experience for both the volunteer and the person we are serving. Volunteers will be matched according to interests, activities, and skills they wish to use. The volunteer will determine the amount of time they would like to commit to. This could be one hour a month, a week, whatever fits into their schedule.
Driver’s check, criminal check and a recipient rights check will be done on volunteer.
The Volunteer Coordinator can be reached at The Arc of Livingston office.
